The Egyptian Museum in Turin , is considered , for the value of the exhibits , the most important in the world after Cairo [ 2 ] and is the world's oldest Egyptian Museum [ citation needed ] .
The Egyptian Museum in Turin is, as the one in Cairo, dedicated exclusively to the art and culture of ancient Egypt . Many scholars of international repute , from deciphering of Egyptian, hieroglyphs Jean-François Champollion , who arrived in Turin in 1824 , dedicated since then to the study of its collections, thus confirming what Champollion wrote: "The road to Memphis and Thebes passes from Turin ".
The Egyptian Museum (Museum of Egyptian Antiquities properly) consists of a set of collections that have overlapped in time , to which must be added the discoveries made as a result of the excavations conducted by the Italian Archaeological Mission in Egypt between 1900 and 1935 . at that time there was the criterion by which the archaeological finds were divided between Egypt and archaeological missions. The current criterion is that the finds remain to Egypt.
Day 1 - TORINO.
Arrive at Turin airport and collect your rental car. Drive to hotel and overnight in hotel.
Day 2 - TORINO.
Breakfast at hotel. Full day visit of Torino. In the morning we suggest the following itinerary. Begin with a walking tour discovering the historical centre who’s buildings range from Roman style, to baroque style to futuristic architecture. Afterwards explore the Egyptian museum which holds the second largest collection of Egyptian relics after the Cairo museum. Enjoy some free time in the afternoon to further explore the city. Some suggestions on how to spend your afternoon are:
Take a tour on the open top bus (10% discount with Torino + Piedmont card). • Royal Palace & Palazzo Madama (free admission with Torino + Piedmont card).
National Museum of Cinema (free admission with Torino + Piedmont card). The only museum of cinema in Italy and the most important in the world. Overnight in hotel. Meals: Breakfast
Day 3 - VENARIA REALE - TORINO.
Breakfast in the hotel followed by a drive to Venaria Reale. There you will visit Baroque Reggia di Veneria (a personal headset with commentary is provided) which is one of the most significant examples of architecture and art in the 17th And 18th centuries. After the visit you will return to your hotel in Turin for a free afternoon. During this free time we suggest a visit to Eataly, the biggest food store in Italy. Here you can taste handmade pasta, the finest Italian wines, oils, ham and salami, cheese, meat or fish in one of the many restaurants inside. Overnight in hotel. Meals: Breakfast
Day 4 - ASTI - LANGA ASTIGIANA - POLLENZO
Breakfast in hotel and depart for Asti. Have a quick tour of the city of Palio. Afterwards we suggest some wine tasting in the area famous for it’s sparkling wines Asti Spumante and Moscato d’Asti and red wines Barbera d’Asti, Dolcetto d’Asti and Brachetto d’Asti. In the afternoon depart for Langa Astigiana where you can admire the beautiful hills and it’s vineyards. Continue to Pollenzo where you will stay for the night. Meals: Breakfast
Day 5 - RACCONIGI- POLLENZO
Breakfast in hotel and then travel to Racconigi. Visit the castle, (admission fee not included) which is one of the residences of the Royal House of Savoy, as well as UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon return to Pollenzo where you can visit the Bank of Wine. An enchanting showcase of the most famous wines in the Langa region. The visit begins with an explanation on how the historical buildings are ideal to refine the finest wines produced at international level and ends with you sampling some of the wines. Overnight in hotel. Meals: Breakfast
Day 6 - GRINZANE CAVOUR - ALBA - POLLENZO
After breakfast travel to the Langhe region, famous for Barolo and Barbaresco wines. In the morning visit Grinzane Cavour with its’ medieval manor house (entrance not included) which looks over the village below and holds the Regional Wine Exhibition Centre, a well known attraction. Continue onto Alba which is often known as the city with one hundred towers. Alba is the capital of the region and is known worldwide for its wines and prestigious white truffles. In the afternoon depart for Barbaresco famous for Gaja, known for being possibly the best Barbaresco wine available. You could also visit Barbaresco Wine Exhibition and Promotion Centre. The are many exhibitions including a label and winery presentation, education and history of Barberesco, technical, economical and tourist information and some free tasting. After the visit you can drive to the town of Nieve for a visit to it’s wonderful baroque centre. Return to Pollenzo and overnight in hotel. Meals: Breakfast
Day 7 - SERRALUNGA - BAROLO - TORINO
After breakfast check out of hotel and depart for Serralunga where you can visit the castle (entrance fees not included) complete with it’s stunning fortified gothic architecture. In the afternoon travel to Barolo to visit the Marchesi di Barolo wine cellar where you can enjoy some wine tasting. The wine cellar has received numerous awards for it’s wines and appears regularly in the press and media. The visit of the area ends at La Morra with it’s stunning panoramic view of the 11 villages which produce Barolo wine. Depart to Torino and overnight in the hotel. Meals: Breakfast
Day 8 - TORINO
After breakfast check-out from the hotel and depart for the airport to return your rental car and depart on your flight. Meals: Breakfast
