Much of ancient history, perhaps of world history, occurred here. Here, in the heart of the Mediterranean, where flourished, and sometimes short-lived, civilizations have crossed, met and clashed.
It is the largest region as well as Italian island, watershed between the Tyrrhenian and Ionian Seas, separated from mainland Italy by the narrow strip of sea of the Strait of Messina.
The coastline varies greatly: highest in the East, low and sandy in the West.
Its size allows it to benefit from a remarkable variety of landscapes. From mountains to sea, gently slanting. Above all the sea, with soft and decided colours, transparent waters and beautiful seabed excels over others.
In this land, the Mediterranean draws unique and intense scenarios, aromas and flavours that only an uncontaminated nature can offer. Not only in traditional locations, but especially in the islands surrounding Sicily: Eolie, Egadi, Pelagie, Pantelleria and Ustica. Each one different with regards to nature, tradition, art and history; but all similar when generating the famous "weakness in the presence of beauty".
And let’s not forget the scenic volcanoes, some of which never lost such as the Etna and Stromboli.
Precious archaeological evidence, refined artistic creations, tasteful crafts and flavours continually solicited by irresistible proposals. Everything narrates of ancient origins and of time passing by.
